A China Agenda for Biden: May Schedule
With a new American President and Administration there is an opportunity to recalibrate or fine-tune U.S. strategy for China to reflect today’s reality. Over the course of February, March, and April 2021 leading experts from Asia, the EU, and the U.S. will converse with Polaris-Live host Sarwar Kashmeri, under the auspices of the Foreign Policy Association, about their thoughts re what should be key agenda items that they would propose to President Biden’s team. This schedule presents the dates/times/links to join the 40 minutes live programs through the end of March 2021. Each episode will be archived on the Polaris-Live channel and may also be accessed by the same links shown below. The FPA will publish a report mid-year 2021 to summarize the conversations and distribute it in printed and PDF formats.

Ryan Hass is the author of “Stronger: Adapting America’s China Strategy in an Age of Competitive Interdependence,” March 2021. He is a senior fellow and the Michael H. Armacost Chair in the Foreign Policy program at Brookings, where he holds a joint appointment to the John L. Thornton China Center and the Center for East Asia Policy Studies. From 2013 to 2017, Hass served as the director for China, Taiwan and Mongolia at the National Security Council (NSC) staff. In that role, he advised President Obama and senior White House officials on all aspects of U.S. policy toward China, Taiwan, and Mongolia, and coordinated the implementation of U.S. policy toward this region.

Jonathan Fulton is an Assistant Professor of Political Science in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Zayed University, in Abu Dhabi, UAE. He has written widely on China-Middle East relations for both academic and popular publications. He is the author of the China’s Relations with the Gulf Monarchies and co-editor of External Power and the Gulf Monarchies.

He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations, the International Institute for Strategic Studies (London), the Asia Society, the U.S.-Indonesia Society, and is Co-Chairman of the Columbia University Faculty Seminar on Southeast Asia. He is also chairman of the Editorial Advisory Board of Great Decisions, and the author of 7 books including Real Reciprocity: Balancing U.S. Economic and Security Policy in the Pacific Basin.
